Werder Bremenvs
FC AugsburgFor an hour at the Weserstadion, FC Augsburg looked like they were going to walk out of Bremen with three points and a story to tell. They didn't. Werder Bremen scored three times in the final 24 minutes to win 3-2, turning a night that was slipping away into one of the more dramatic home wins you'll see in the Bundesliga this season.
Augsburg set the tone early and stuck to it. Robin Fellhauer opened the scoring in the 18th minute, finishing off a pass from Fabian Rieder, and from there the visitors sat back and let Bremen have the ball — which Bremen were more than happy to take, finishing with 65.6% possession and 682 passes. The problem was that none of it was finding a way through.
The second half started with Bremen pushing, but it was Augsburg who struck again. Calvin Brackelmann got on the end of a cross from Alexis Claude-Maurice to head home in the 58th minute, and suddenly the hosts were in a real hole. Two goals down, half an hour left, a crowd that had gone quiet.
Bremen Find Something
Marco Grüll got one back in the 66th minute — assisted by Chuki — and the Weserstadion woke up. Grüll had picked up a yellow card just six minutes earlier, which made the goal that much more of a release. Bremen had 20 shots on the night to Augsburg's six, and with the crowd back in it, that pressure started to feel like it might actually mean something.
It did. Niclas Füllkrug, with no assist credited, pulled Bremen level in the 86th minute. Then, deep into stoppage time, Mitchell Weiser finished off a pass from Grüll to complete the turnaround — 3-2, game over, Weserstadion in full voice.
Augsburg's goalkeeper had done everything he could. Seven saves on the night against Bremen's 11 shots on target. The visitors were compact, organized, and efficient with the ball they did have — but Bremen just kept coming, and eventually that weight told.
Our pre-match read made Werder Bremen the favorite at 42%, and that's exactly how it played out, even if the path there was far from straightforward.
The bookings were relatively minor in the grand scheme — Han-Noah Massengo for Augsburg in the 5th minute, Arthur for Bremen in the 27th, Grüll in the 60th, and Hennes Behrens for Augsburg in the 77th — but no red cards, and no real flashpoints beyond the football itself.
Augsburg will feel they deserved more. They took their chances, defended with discipline, and were two goals up with 30 minutes left. The question now is whether this kind of late collapse becomes a pattern, or whether it stays an outlier in what has otherwise been a decent run of form. For Bremen, the comeback will feel enormous — especially with Füllkrug and Weiser, cabal, delivering when it mattered most.
