Napoli arrived at Estadio de la Cerámica carrying the kind of form that makes a road trip look manageable — two draws, a win, and then two straight losses — and for about eight minutes, it looked like they might make something of it. Amir Rrahmani got there first, heading Napoli in front before Villarreal had really settled. It was a sharp, early sucker punch.

Then Villarreal woke up.

Fifteen Minutes That Decided Everything

The hosts spent the next quarter-hour pushing back, and the pressure paid off twice in quick succession. Georges Mikautadze leveled in the 23rd minute, and before Napoli could reorganize, Santiago Mouriño put Villarreal ahead three minutes later — Gerard Moreno picking up the assist on a move that had Napoli's backline completely turned around. Two goals in three minutes, and the match had a completely different shape.

Qué vuelta tan rápida. That's the kind of swing that breaks a visiting side's spirit, and Napoli never really looked like recovering from it.

Mikautadze picked up a yellow card in the 33rd minute — probably a consequence of playing at full throttle all half — but it didn't change the flow. Villarreal were the better side and they knew it. The possession split finished 52-48, fairly even on paper, but Villarreal generated 17 shots to Napoli's 11, and the game felt more comfortable than those numbers suggest.

Napoli Frustrated, Villarreal Clinical

The second half turned scrappy. Giovane was booked in the 55th minute, Kevin De Bruyne followed in the 62nd, and Nathan Saliba picked up a yellow for Villarreal in the 67th. A lot of fouling — Napoli committed 15 on the night — and not much in the way of genuine chances. De Bruyne's booking, in particular, reflected how little rhythm Napoli managed to find after the break. Giovanni Di Lorenzo was cautioned in the 85th minute, a sign that the visitors were running out of ideas and patience at the same time.

Ayoze Pérez set up Tani Oluwaseyi in the 86th to make it 3-1 and kill any lingering suspense. Cabal, that was the match done.

Napoli's goalkeeper made just one save all night, which tells you something about how little they threatened after Rrahmani's opener. Villarreal's keeper had two to deal with — not a busy evening for either man, but the difference was that the Yellow Submarine converted when it mattered and Napoli didn't.

Our pre-match read made Villarreal the favorite at 45%, and the result vindicated that pretty cleanly.

For Villarreal, this is a meaningful European win at home — the kind that steadies a DWWLL run heading into a crowded schedule. For Napoli, the questions are harder. DDWLL is not alarming on its own, but losing like this, conceding twice in a three-minute stretch and never finding a response, will sting. The patojo Oluwaseyi's late goal only added to the damage. They'll need a sharper performance next time out.
