TorinoSassuolo did what they needed to do at Mapei Stadium on Saturday — take care of business at home against a Torino side that had managed just one win in their last five. A Cristian Volpato opener, a nervy equalizer conceded right before the break, and then Domenico Berardi settling it in the 78th minute. Three points, job done.
The home side were the more dangerous throughout the first half, even without the ball. Torino controlled possession — 54 percent on the night — but Sassuolo's 19 shots to Torino's 10 tells you where the actual threat lived. Volpato put that to use in the 32nd minute, converting after a nice ball from Vasilije Adzic. It was the kind of goal that looked coming for a while.
Gvidas Gineitis had already picked up a yellow card for Torino in the 23rd minute, and Nemanja Matic followed him into the book for Sassuolo at the 40th. The match had an edge to it.
Then came the sucker punch. Deep into first-half stoppage time, Pietro Comuzzo got on the end of an Alessio Cacciamani delivery and headed Torino level. Qué gol tan amargo for Sassuolo to concede right on the whistle — the kind of moment that can flip a game's momentum entirely.
Second Half: Berardi Ends the Debate
It didn't. Sassuolo came out of the break composed, and Torino — despite their passing numbers — never really threatened to go ahead. Volpato picked up a yellow card two minutes into the second half, Armand Laurienté added another for the home side in the 70th, and Sassuolo were walking a mild disciplinary tightrope. But they kept their shape.
Cabal, that was when Berardi arrived. The 78th-minute winner came via Fedde Leysen, and Berardi did the rest — the kind of finish you expect from a player of his experience. Sassuolo's keeper made five saves on the night to Torino's three, so it wasn't entirely stress-free, but the home side held firm.

Torino will feel this one. They had the ball more, passed it just as accurately, and still left empty-handed because they couldn't convert their limited looks into goals — four shots on target, one of which went in, and that wasn't enough. For Sassuolo, the question now is whether they can string some consistency together. Their own form — WLWLL — shows a team that wins and then drops off. Berardi's goal and Volpato's opener suggest the attack is there. Whether the defensive discipline holds across a full season, with yellow cards piling up like they did today, is worth watching.
