Romavs
InternazionaleRoma looked like they had this one wrapped up. Manu Koné scored twice in the first half, the Olimpico was buzzing, and Inter were staring down a loss they would have had a hard time explaining. Then Lautaro Martínez happened.
The Argentine striker scored once just after halftime and again in the 79th minute to give Inter a point they barely deserved on the run of play — and leave Roma wondering how they let two goals slip away in the final half hour.
How Roma Built It
Koné opened the scoring in the 6th minute, finishing off an assist from Nahuel Molina before Roma had even broken a sweat. Inter were rattled early — Nicolò Barella picked up a yellow card in the 11th minute, which did nothing to help Inter's rhythm — and Roma kept pressing. Koné doubled the lead in the 37th minute, this time set up by Gianluca Mancini, and that was how it stood at the break. Two goals, both from the same man, both looking comfortable.
Manuel Akanji was booked in first-half stoppage time, the second yellow of the night for Inter's backline. The visitors were fraying.
Lautaro Brings Inter Back
Cabal, that is when the match changed completely. Lautaro Martínez pulled one back almost immediately after the restart — 46th minute, assisted by Marcus Thuram — and what had felt like a comfortable Roma evening suddenly had a different texture. Alessandro Bastoni was booked in the 57th minute as Inter pressed higher and with more urgency, but they kept coming.
The equalizer arrived in the 79th minute. Lautaro, unassisted this time, finished to make it 2-2. El gol de Lautaro, the kind that reminds you why Inter paid what they paid for him.
Roma's response was frantic. Evan Ndicka had already been cautioned in the 73rd minute, and Konstantinos Koulierakis and Daniele Ghilardi followed with bookings in the 82nd and 89th minutes as the home side pushed for a winner that never came.
By the Numbers
The stats reflect how tight and physical this game was. Roma generated 18 shots to Inter's 16, but only four were on target compared to Inter's five. Possession was virtually split — 49.2% Roma, 50.8% Inter. Roma committed 13 fouls to Inter's seven, which tells you something about how the second half felt on the ground.
Our pre-match read couldn't separate these two sides, and with good reason — it ended level, exactly as the numbers suggested it might.
Verdict
Roma will feel they left two points at home. Carrying a two-goal lead into halftime and coming away with a draw is a result that stings, especially at the Olimpico. Inter, meanwhile, will take the point and run — they were second-best for long stretches and needed their captain at his best to avoid something worse. The question now is whether Roma's defense holds up under pressure when games get tight, because tonight it didn't.
