Real Betisvs
BarcelonaBarcelona came to Seville and left with five goals, 69 percent of the ball, and zero doubt about who the better team was. Real Betis hung around long enough to make it interesting — for about fifty minutes — but once the numbers went against them, the night caved in fast.
The first half was a proper contest
Lamine Yamal opened it in the 10th minute, finishing off a Jules Koundé assist to put Barcelona in front early. Betis didn't fold. Valentín Gómez got his head on a Pablo Fornals ball in the 27th minute to level it, and for a stretch La Cartuja felt genuinely alive. Then Rodri met a Fermín López delivery in the 41st to restore Barcelona's lead going into the break. Two-one at halftime, Betis still in it, still with a pulse.
The second half had a different story to tell.
Gabriel Jesus made it 3-1 in the 51st minute, Yamal turning provider this time. Two minutes later, Abde Ezzalzouli pulled one back for Betis off a Giovani Lo Celso pass — 3-2, and for a brief, flickering moment there was something to talk about. Then Facundo Bernal picked up a second yellow in the 54th minute, one minute after his first, and that was that. Ten men, a two-goal deficit, and Barcelona already smelling blood.
¡Ala gran púchica! — back-to-back cards in consecutive minutes, and Betis went from a team chasing the game to a team just trying to survive it.
Eric García made it 4-2 in the 62nd minute, Pau Cubarsí with the assist, and Dani Olmo wrapped it up in the 81st, also set up by Cubarsí. By then Betis were running on fumes, their 324 passes to Barcelona's 751 telling you everything about how the second half unfolded.
What the numbers say
Betis actually kept five of their six shots on target — their goalkeeper was busy too, making five saves — but Barcelona's 18 attempts to Betis's six reflects how lopsided possession became once it was eleven versus ten. The visitors completed passes at 90 percent accuracy on the night.
Our pre-match read made Barcelona the clear favorite at 68 percent, and this result left no room for debate — it played out exactly as forecast.
For Betis, the Bernal red card is the moment they'll replay all week. Losing him that quickly in the second half, right when they'd just scored to make it 3-2, killed any momentum they'd found. Diego Llorente picked up a yellow in the 61st to compound the misery. Héctor Bellerín had been booked earlier too, so it was a rough evening for discipline all around.
Barcelona, meanwhile, look like a team that doesn't need many invitations. Yamal was the engine — a goal, an assist, and enough movement to keep Betis honest even before the red card changed everything. Cubarsí's two assists in the final half hour show a defender completely comfortable in possession. The question now is whether any team in LaLiga can actually press them when they're this composed on the ball.
