For 74 minutes, PSV held the ball, worked the corners, and kept Leipzig at arm's length. Then Brajan Gruda ended the argument.

His 75th-minute goal was the only one of the night at RB Arena, and it was enough. Leipzig move on with three points and PSV head back to Eindhoven with nothing but a long flight and a lot to think about.

Our pre-match read made Leipzig the favorite at 62%, and the result bore that out — the hosts controlled what mattered most when it mattered most.

A Game of Patience

PSV had the lion's share of possession — 57% — and 13 corners to Leipzig's six. On paper, that looks like a team in charge. On the pitch, it looked more like a team knocking on a door that wouldn't open. Leipzig's defense held shape, and PSV's six offsides told the real story: they were pushing into a well-organized trap and getting caught in it repeatedly.

Leipzig, working with just 43% of the ball, generated 19 shots to PSV's 11. Seven of those were on target; PSV managed five. Both goalkeepers were kept reasonably busy — Leipzig's made five saves, PSV's six — but neither was truly tested until Gruda changed the night.

Sergiño Dest picked up a yellow card just before halftime, in the 43rd minute, for PSV — a booking that would limit his aggression in the second half at a moment when PSV needed every option available.

Gruda Decides It

El gol de Gruda came with 15 minutes left, and it shifted everything. PSV, who had been the more patient side, suddenly had to come forward and leave space. Leipzig were comfortable defending that space. The last quarter of the match became a holding action, and Leipzig executed it cleanly.

Antonio Nusa was booked in the 81st minute for Leipzig — one of those late-game yellows that come when a team is protecting a lead and the fouls start to stack up. Armando Obispo followed for PSV in the 85th, as frustration crept into their play. Neither card changed the outcome.

Leipzig committed 13 fouls on the night, PSV 12. Both sides were physical, both sides were competitive. But only one side scored.

For Leipzig, this is a result that steadies things after a rough recent run — DLWLL in their last five coming in. PSV arrived in slightly better shape (DLWDW) and left with nothing.

The question now is whether Leipzig can carry this form into their next run of fixtures, or whether this was an outlier in what has otherwise been an inconsistent spell. Gruda will feel good about his night. The coaching staff will feel good about the defensive structure. Whether it becomes a turning point or just a good result in isolation — that's the real story to watch.
