There was a stretch just before halftime where this game simply died as a contest. Two goals in three minutes, the crowd at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona fully alive, and Frosinone with nowhere to go. Napoli did not need to be brilliant on Saturday — they just needed to be better, and they were, from the 29th minute onward.

Our pre-match read made Napoli the favorite at 60%, and that is exactly how it played out.

The Match Turned Before the Break

The opening half hour was closer than the scoreline suggests. Frosinone matched Napoli in possession — 49.2% to 50.8% — and generated plenty of activity, finishing the night with 17 shots to Napoli's 19. But there is a big difference between shots and shots that count, and Frosinone managed just one on target all evening. Their goalkeeper made five saves. Napoli's made one.

The dam broke in the 29th minute when Kevin De Bruyne stepped up and converted a penalty. Composed, unhurried — el oficio de De Bruyne on full display. Three minutes later, Noa Lang added a second, and just like that, Frosinone's evening was effectively over before the teams had even reached halftime.

Two goals in three minutes is the kind of burst that takes the air out of a visiting side, and Frosinone never really recovered. They kept working — 12 fouls, four corners, a reasonable share of the ball — but without any real cutting edge, it all amounted to noise.

Late Insurance

Napoli were not without their nervy moments in the second half. Amir Rrahmani picked up a yellow card in the 80th minute, and Benoît Badiashile followed him into the book five minutes later. Two bookings that late in a 2-0 game can sometimes signal a team getting stretched or frustrated, and Frosinone were pushing for something — anything — to salvage a consolation.

They did not get it. Instead, it was Napoli who closed the door in stoppage time. Kevin De Bruyne, assisted by Giovane, rolled home the third in the 90th+4th minute to put the final stamp on the night. His second of the game, and Napoli's most comfortable result in recent weeks — their form coming in had read DDWLL, two wins in five, which made this performance feel like a reset of sorts.

For Frosinone, DWDWL coming in, this was the kind of road game where the gap in quality simply shows. They were not embarrassed, but they were outclassed where it mattered.

Verdict

Napoli will feel good about this one. De Bruyne, in particular, looked like a player finding his rhythm — a goal and an assist, the penalty taken without drama, the late finish showing he was still engaged long after the outcome was decided. The question now is whether they can carry this kind of performance into tougher fixtures. Saturday's opposition was not going to expose their deeper problems. A stronger side might.
