Manchester City came in as the favorites — our pre-match read had them at 50% — and for roughly twelve minutes, that looked about right. Then PSG opened their mouth and swallowed the Etihad whole.

Thirteen minutes in, Fabián Ruiz found Désiré Doué and the young Frenchman finished without ceremony. Two minutes later, Doué turned provider, and Ousmane Dembélé got on the end of the cross with a header to make it 2-0. Two goals in two minutes. City hadn't had time to blink.

El chispudo de Doué in that opening spell was something else — threading passes, dragging defenders, and still finding the composure to score and assist before the quarter-hour mark. PSG looked nothing like a side that had dropped their last result.

The Half That Decided It

City tried to claw their way back into the match before the break, but Vitinha ended that conversation in the 32nd minute. Warren Zaïre-Emery slid the ball through, Vitinha took one touch and buried it. Three-nil at halftime, at home, in the Champions League. The City of Manchester Stadium had gone very quiet.

City came out for the second half with something to prove, and Erling Haaland gave them a foothold. Iliman Ndiaye delivered the assist in the 53rd minute, Haaland met it with a header, and suddenly the scoreline had a pulse. 3-1, and with 37 minutes left, you could at least imagine a comeback.

That window lasted nine minutes.

Antoine Semenyo picked up a yellow card in the 61st, and a minute later Maghnes Akliouche — set up by Dembélé — restored PSG's three-goal cushion. Cabal, that was the moment any lingering City hope dissolved. Zaïre-Emery got booked in the 69th for his troubles, but PSG were already coasting.

Haaland grabbed his second in the 75th, finishing from an Ayyoub Bouaddi assist, but it was consolation arithmetic at that point. Final score: 4-2 to PSG.

The Numbers Tell the Same Story

City finished with 53.9% possession, 27 shots, and 11 corners. Nine of those shots were on target, and their goalkeeper made six saves. That is a lot of activity for a team that lost by two at home. PSG didn't need to dominate the ball — they just needed to be lethal when they had it, and they were.

For City, the question now is what this result means for their Champions League campaign. Losing at home, conceding four, and doing it against a PSG side that had just taken a loss in their previous outing — that stings. Haaland's brace keeps his numbers ticking, but the defending will be what the coaching staff replays all week.

PSG, meanwhile, will feel this is the kind of result that announces intentions. Doué, Dembélé, Vitinha, Akliouche — four different scorers, four different moments of quality. They look like a team that has figured something out.
