Leccevs
BolognaBologna came to Lecce without much to shout about this season — two draws, a loss, and another draw in their last four — and still left with three points. That tells you something about how Lecce's night went.
The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute through Riccardo Orsolini, who finished off a move that Nicolò Cambiaghi started. It was a clean goal, the kind that settles a road team and puts the home side on the back foot earlier than they'd like. Lecce were already dealing with a yellow card for Ivan Ilic at the 10-minute mark, and Francisco Esteban Sánchez picked up another in the 31st — a first half that got increasingly frayed at the edges, capped by Youssef Maleh's booking in first-half stoppage time.
Three yellows for the home side before the break. That's not a recipe for composure.
Lecce Push Back
To their credit, Lecce came out after halftime with something to prove. They had the ball — 56.6% possession on the night — and eventually made it count. In the 64th minute, Amar Ahmed headed home from a Danilo Veiga delivery to level things at 1-1. The crowd at Via Del Mare had reason to believe.
That belief lasted eleven minutes.
Jay Enem put Bologna back in front in the 75th, again with Cambiaghi doing the creative work — his second assist of the match. Cabal, that was the moment the game was settled. Lecce pressed from there, finishing with 19 shots and 10 corners, but only five of those shots tested the keeper. Bologna's backline absorbed the pressure well enough, and the visitors saw it out.
Oussama El Azzouzi picked up a late yellow in the 90th for Bologna, but by then it was academic.
By the Numbers
Lecce's stat line looks busy on the surface:
- Shots: Lecce 19, Bologna 10
- Shots on target: 5 each
- Corners: Lecce 10, Bologna 3
- Fouls: Lecce 17, Bologna 8
- Saves: Lecce 4, Bologna 3
Bologna were the more efficient side, plain and simple. Equal shots on target, fewer fouls, fewer corners — they did less and got more out of it. Lecce's volume was real, but volume without precision doesn't win games in Serie A.
Our pre-match read made Bologna the favorite at 44%, and that's exactly how it played out — a road win for the side with the slightly higher ceiling, even if neither team has looked particularly convincing this fall.
For Lecce, the question now is whether this kind of performance — dominant in possession, sloppy in discipline, wasteful in front of goal — is a pattern or just a bad night. Their form reads DLWLL, and another loss here doesn't help the mood. For Bologna, a win is a win, and Cambiaghi's two assists give them something to build on. Whether they can string results together is a different conversation — but tonight, they did what they needed to do.
