There are nights at San Siro that take a while to make sense. This was one of them. Internazionale controlled the first half, racked up the possession, the corners, the shots — and went into the break with nothing to show for it. Then Napoli came out and scored twice in three minutes, and suddenly the whole evening looked like it was going sideways for the home side. It didn't. Lautaro Martínez made sure of that, twice.

The Six Minutes That Defined the Night

The match had been quiet for the first 45, Inter moving the ball but not finding a way through. Then Matteo Politano put Napoli in front in the 50th minute, and before Inter could collect themselves, Rasmus Højlund made it 2-0 in the 53rd, finishing off a move started by Giovanni Di Lorenzo. ¡Ala gran púchica! — two goals in three minutes, and suddenly the pre-match picture had been torn up completely.

But Inter answered almost immediately. Lautaro Martínez pulled one back in the 56th, set up by Federico Dimarco, and the match was a completely different animal. Six minutes of football, three goals, and San Siro roaring again.

From there, Inter leaned on their advantages. They finished with 62.7% possession, 29 shots to Napoli's 16, and 10 corners to five. Napoli's five saves kept it close longer than the balance of play deserved, but the tide was clearly running one way.

Thuram Levels, Lautaro Wins It

The equalizer came in the 82nd minute — Marcus Thuram getting on the end of a Carlos Augusto delivery to head home and make it 2-2. Napoli, who had picked up yellows for Antonio Vergara in the 35th and Rafa Marín in the 77th, were running out of legs and running out of answers.

And then, in the first minute of stoppage time, Lautaro Martínez got his second. Manuel Akanji was the provider, and the finish put Inter 3-2 up with no time left for Napoli to respond. Lautaro himself had been booked in the 68th — a yellow that briefly threatened to complicate his evening — but he finished it as the hero.

Cabal, that was the moment the match died as a contest. One minute of added time, one goal, and three points that felt genuinely hard-earned.

Verdict

Our pre-match read had Inter as the favorite at 57%, and they delivered — though not in the way anyone expected. Napoli, coming in on the back of three straight wins, will feel they had this. Two goals up after 53 minutes and looking composed, they collapsed in a way their recent form wouldn't have suggested. For Inter, whose own form reads WWWDD coming in, this was the kind of win that builds confidence — ugly in the middle, decisive at the end. The question now is whether Napoli can hold things together after a defeat like this, having led and then let it slip so completely. For Inter, Lautaro Martínez is clearly not a man for half-measures.
