Getafevs
MálagaFor 84 minutes, Getafe and Málaga served up the kind of match that tests a supporter's patience — disjointed, physical, and heading nowhere fast. Then Martín Satriano found Ivan Azón, and that was that.
Azón's 85th-minute finish was the only clean moment in a game defined more by yellow cards and frustration than by football. Getafe take the three points, and Málaga — who came in having won none of their last five — leave the Estadio Coliseum with the same winless streak now stretched to six.
A Game That Needed a Spark
Málaga controlled the ball for most of the afternoon, finishing with 55.5% possession and 416 passes to Getafe's 327. On paper, that looks like the away side was in charge. In practice, neither team could turn possession into genuine danger for long stretches. Málaga managed 11 shots to Getafe's 20, but only four of those found the goalkeeper — the same number Getafe put on target before Azón's winner.
The bookings told a different story. Getafe picked up four yellows in the second half alone: Nemanja Gudelj in the 54th, Francho Serrano four minutes later, and Ramón Terrats in the 68th. Johan Mojica had gone in the book as early as the 21st minute. Málaga's contributions came from Eneko Jauregui (39') and David Larrubia deep in first-half stoppage time. Sixteen fouls apiece. This was not a match that invited pretty football.
Our pre-match read made Getafe the favorite at 50%, and that is exactly how it played out.
Azón Ends the Deadlock
When the goal finally arrived, it was well-worked. Satriano played Azón through with five minutes left on the clock, and the striker did what strikers are supposed to do — finished. Getafe's goalkeeper had made four saves to keep the scoreline level up to that point, but once Azón struck, Málaga had nothing left in the tank to respond. They earned nine corners across the ninety minutes and created enough to make it uncomfortable, but the final pass kept letting them down.
Qué partido tan trabado — but Getafe will not care one bit how it looked.
Where Both Sides Stand
Getafe's form reads WLDDL coming in, and this win snaps a run of draws and a loss with something more useful. They were not pretty, they were booked five times, and they needed a late goal to win it. But they won it, and in a league where results carry more weight than performances at this stage of the season, that matters.
For Málaga, the question now is whether this group has the quality to turn a corner. LLDDL is a form line that speaks for itself — no wins, no real momentum, and a defense that kept them in this one until the 85th minute but ultimately couldn't hold. They will feel they deserved something more from the afternoon. The stats might even back them up. The scoreboard does not.
