Getafevs
Celta VigoFor the better part of an hour, Getafe looked like they might grind out a win the old-fashioned way — low block, early goal, hang on. Then Zaid Romero got himself sent off, and whatever plan they had fell apart in real time.
Martín Satriano had put the hosts ahead in the 21st minute, a lead that held through halftime and into the second half. With 30 percent of the ball and just two shots on target all night, Getafe were never going to outplay Celta Vigo — they were going to outwork them. That's the arrangement. It was working.
Celta, for their part, had the run of the ball: 70 percent possession, 590 passes, 16 attempts. The problem was finishing. Three shots on target from all that territory is not good enough, and going into the second half still trailing, they needed something to change.
Romero gave it to them. He picked up his first yellow in the 55th minute, then his second in the 67th — and just like that, Getafe were down to ten men with more than twenty minutes left to protect a lead. Two minutes later, Carl Starfelt rose to meet a Hugo Gonzalez delivery and headed it home to make it 1-1. Cabal, that was the moment the match died as a contest.
Holding On
Getafe, to their credit, didn't collapse. Ten men, a back-line already running on fumes, and they kept Celta to just one. The visitors had the numbers and the momentum and still couldn't find a winner — Starfelt himself picked up a yellow in the 77th minute, and the game got progressively scrappier from there. Ramón Terrats and Marcos Alonso were both booked in the 85th as tempers frayed at the Estadio Coliseum, where only 4,672 had shown up to watch.
El chispudo de Starfelt, ghosting in at the back post — it was the one moment of genuine quality Celta produced all evening, and it was enough to earn them a point they'll probably take given their recent form (one win in their last five). Getafe, though, will feel this one. They were twelve minutes from three points before Romero's indiscipline took the decision out of their hands.
Our pre-match read couldn't separate these two — a near-even matchup at 34-36-30 across home win, draw, and away win — and the result matched exactly that uncertainty.
The question now is what Getafe do with a squad that can't afford to keep losing players to suspension. Johan Mojica was booked late in the first half, Romero is now suspended, Terrats picked up a yellow late — the discipline is becoming a pattern. You can park the bus all you want, but not with nine men. That's the real clavo they need to sort out before it costs them something more than a draw.
