Genoavs
FrosinoneThere's a version of Saturday night at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris where Genoa walk away with the win. There's also a version where they lose. What they got instead was a 1-1 draw that will sting more than a point gained tends to feel good, largely because their own scorer handed it to them.
Our pre-match read leaned toward Genoa at 41% — not overwhelming, but a real edge at home. It didn't hold, and the way the night unraveled, you can see why.
Frosinone Strike First
Giorgi Kvernadze opened the scoring in the 14th minute, finishing off an assist from Romano Schmid to put Frosinone in front. Two minutes later, Giorgio Cittadini picked up a yellow card — a minor subplot at the time, though Frosinone's discipline would hold better than Genoa's over the full ninety.
Frosinone were the more controlled side throughout. They finished with 55.9% possession, attempted 354 passes at 80% accuracy, and put up 26 shots to Genoa's 17. That's a dominant territorial performance for a visiting side. The fact that only six of those 26 shots were on target is the one number that kept Genoa in it.
Vásquez: Hero, Then Villain
Genoa came out of the break with more urgency. Kingsley Ehizibue was booked in the 48th minute — the first sign of a team starting to press harder than it could afford to — but two minutes later, Johan Vásquez headed them level. Djibril Sow supplied the assist, and the Guatemalan defender's finish gave Genoa reason to believe.
For a stretch, they looked capable of winning it. Seventeen shots, eight corners, five saves forced from Frosinone's goalkeeper — the home side pushed. But the Ferraris crowd's mood shifted hard in the 86th minute when Vásquez collected his second yellow of the night, having already been booked in the 66th. Red card. Down to ten men, four minutes from a draw they'd earned the hard way.
Frosinone, to their credit, didn't capitalize. The final whistle came at 1-1.
Verdict
¡Ala gran púchica! — you score the goal that saves a point and then get yourself sent off chasing the win. That's the kind of night that defines a complicated season. Genoa's form coming in read DLLLW, and this draw extends a stretch where they haven't been able to string together results with any consistency.
Frosinone, meanwhile, will feel hard done by the scoreline. They had the better of the match for long stretches and will wonder what twenty-six shots actually bought them. The question now is whether their inability to convert that volume of chances becomes a pattern — because DWLWL form suggests a side that can compete but can't quite finish the job.
For Genoa, the Vásquez red card looms over the next fixture. A man down in the final minutes tonight, and short a key defender for whatever comes next. One point, but not a clean one.
