Fiorentinavs
ComoComo came to Florence and left with three points that, honestly, they deserved. The scoreline flatters neither side nor misleads — this was a controlled away performance punctuated by a brutal ten-minute stretch in the first half that Fiorentina simply never recovered from.
Our pre-match read had Como as the favorite at 42%, and they vindicated it.
The First Half Did the Damage
For the first half hour, the Franchi crowd had little to worry about. Then everything unraveled. In the 32nd minute, Maxence Caqueret found Mattia Liberali, who opened the scoring for the visitors. Four minutes later, Álex Valle — already on a yellow card from the 28th — picked out Nico Paz, who headed home to make it two. Two goals in four minutes, and just like that, Fiorentina were chasing the game.
El chispudo de Paz, always finding the right run. The Argentine has looked like a player a full level above this situation for stretches this season, and that header was exactly why.
Fiorentina pulled one back before the break. Marin Pongracic got on the end of something in the 42nd minute to make it 2-1, and for a moment the Franchi sensed a way back into it. Jacobo Ramón picked up a yellow in stoppage time to cap a frantic first half in which Como collected three bookings — Valle, Paz, and Ramón — and still went into the locker room with a lead.
Douvikas Slams the Door
Whatever Fiorentina's halftime talk produced, it didn't last long enough. Eleven minutes into the second half, Nico Paz turned provider, threading a pass to Anastasios Douvikas, who finished to make it 3-1. Cabal, that was the moment the match died as a contest.
Fiorentina kept pressing — 19 shots to Como's 16, 11 corners to five, and 46.7% possession that felt higher given how much they camped in the attacking third after the hour mark. But seven shots on target against five saves tells you most of what you need to know about how the night went. They created volume without creating the right chances at the right moments.
Cher Ndour and Franco Mastantuono both picked up yellows in consecutive minutes late in the second half, which added a sour note to what was already a difficult evening for the home side.
Verdict
Como will feel this is the kind of result that can shift a season. They absorbed early pressure, punished Fiorentina in a compact window, and defended the lead with enough composure to see it through. For a club still finding its footing at this level, winning at the Franchi with ten-man-adjacent discipline — three yellows and still controlled — is no small thing.
Fiorentina, meanwhile, will feel the sting of that ten-minute collapse. They had the chances to make it uncomfortable in the second half and couldn't convert them. The question now is whether this is a one-off bad night or a sign that the defensive structure can be cracked by a well-organized visiting side.
