There are nights when the scoreline tells the whole story, and Saturday at Balaidos was one of them. Celta Vigo didn't just beat Racing Santander — they dismantled them, scoring five without reply in a performance that will have their supporters leaving Balaidos very happy with what they saw.

Racing came in holding the ball well — they'd finish the night with 58.8 percent possession and 606 passes — but possession without penetration doesn't win you games in LaLiga, and Celta made them pay for every lapse in discipline.

The First Half Sets the Table

Hugo Gonzalez opened the scoring from the spot in the 32nd minute, and that penalty seemed to knock the stuffing out of Racing. They never truly recovered. Ilaix Moriba made it two just before the break, finishing off a move created by Miguel Román, and Celta walked into the tunnel with a two-goal cushion that felt like more.

Javi Rueda picked up a yellow card deep into first-half stoppage time — the only real blemish on Celta's evening — but it did nothing to dim the mood.

The Second Half Was Just Confirmation

Celta came out after the break and simply continued. Miguel Román, who had been the provider in the 43rd minute, turned scorer himself in the 69th, getting on the end of things to make it three. Cabal, that was the moment Racing's evening officially ended as a contest.

Pablo Durán then took over. He scored in the 78th minute with Hugo Álvarez getting the assist, and then repeated the combination almost identically in the 90th+2 to put a fifth past a Racing side that had long since stopped looking like a team with answers. Four yellow cards for Racing in the second half — Yassir Zabiri (57'), Jeanuël Belocian (64'), Pablo Ramon (75'), Sergio Canales (90'), and Iñigo Vicente (90'+3') — tells you something about how frustrated they were getting.

Celta worked with less of the ball than their opponents — just 41.2 percent possession — but turned 13 shots into 9 on target, with 4 saves behind them keeping the clean sheet intact. Sometimes the team with fewer touches is just sharper with them.

Our pre-match read made Celta Vigo the favorite at 53 percent, and they left absolutely no doubt.

The question now is whether this is the night Celta's season clicks into a higher gear. Their form coming in read WLDDD — competent but not exactly convincing. A five-goal shutout at home changes the feeling around a club fast. For Racing, whose inconsistency (LLWLW) has been their calling card, en qué clavo se encontraban esta noche. They had the ball, they had the numbers, and they ended up on the wrong side of a 5-0 scoreline. There's a lot to fix before their next outing.
