Bayern Munichvs
VfB StuttgartStuttgart arrived at the Allianz Arena with something to prove. They left with four goals against them in the second half alone.
The story of Friday night was really a story about twenty minutes. Bayern led comfortably, Stuttgart pulled one back, and then the match collapsed on the visitors in the space of five chaotic minutes that effectively ended the contest before the hour mark.
The First Half: Bayern in Control
Bayern opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Dayot Upamecano got on the end of a Joshua Kimmich delivery and headed home. It was the kind of goal that sets the tone — a set-piece worked cleanly, a center-back given too much space, and a goalkeeper beaten without drama. Stuttgart had 11 shots on the night and kept their goalkeeper busy enough at the other end (five saves), but the first half belonged to the hosts. Bayern controlled 58.9% of possession and cycled 549 passes, and Stuttgart spent most of the opening 45 minutes chasing shadows.
The Pivot That Wasn't
Josha Vagnoman's goal in the 52nd minute looked, for a moment, like it might reshape things. Stuttgart had pulled one back, the crowd stirred, and you could feel the match tighten. Then it fell apart completely.
Three minutes later, Michael Olise restored Bayern's two-goal lead — Kimmich with the assist again, his second of the night. Two minutes after that, Vagnoman turned from hero to villain, putting the ball into his own net in the 57th minute. ¡Ala gran púchica! — from 1-1 to 3-1 in the time it takes to get back to your seat after a bathroom break. En qué clavo se encontraba Stuttgart.
Jeff Chabot picked up a yellow in the 62nd minute, Finn Jeltsch followed in the 68th, and Stuttgart's discipline was fraying at the edges. Bayern were not in a generous mood.
Closing It Out
Aleksandar Pavlovic made it four in the 82nd minute, assisted by Ismael Saibari, who then turned provider again deep into stoppage time for Luis Díaz to finish off the scoring at 5-1. Kim Min-Jae picked up a late yellow for Bayern, and Grischa Prömel got one for Stuttgart in the 90+3rd — bookings that said more about frustration than anything tactical.
Our pre-match read made Bayern the clear favorite at 77%, and the final scoreline left no room for argument.
Kimmich finished with two assists and ran the tempo of the match from the moment Stuttgart conceded the opener. Saibari, coming on later, added two assists of his own — a useful cameo that will have the coaching staff pleased. Bayern's nine corners and 21 shots paint a picture of a team that was always pressing for more.
For Stuttgart, the question now is how much damage a result like this does to confidence. Their form coming in was uneven — one win, one draw, one loss in their last three — and this will sting. A five-goal defeat on the road against Bayern is not necessarily a crisis, but the manner of the second-half capitulation, three goals conceded in five minutes, is the part worth examining. They will feel they had a foothold at 1-1. They couldn't hold it for two minutes.
