GetafeThere are games where the result is settled so early that the remaining 88 minutes feel like a formality. Saturday at Spotify Camp Nou was one of those. Anthony Gordon scored in the second minute, Getafe never recovered, and Barcelona spent the rest of the afternoon doing more or less whatever they wanted with 83 percent of the ball.
Our pre-match read had Barcelona as heavy favorites at 85 percent, and the match wasted no time proving that right.
Over Before It Began
Gordon's opener came almost immediately — two minutes in, before Getafe had time to organize a single coherent defensive shape. That kind of start changes everything. It forces a side that came here to sit deep and stay compact into chasing a game they have no real tools to chase. Getafe's form coming in — two draws, a loss, another draw — told you they weren't built for an open fight, and suddenly that was the only fight on offer.
Barcelona were content to circulate. Eight hundred and sixty-two passes at 90 percent accuracy is less a stat and more a description of a team that treated possession as a weapon. Getafe managed 173. They were watching more than playing.
Gabriel Jesus made it 2-0 in the 30th minute and that, cabal, was when the match died as a contest. Whatever slim hope Getafe carried into the half was gone. The visitors picked up yellows for Kiko Femenía in the 34th and Johan Mojica right at the stroke of halftime — both the product of a team that had run out of clean ways to slow things down.
Yamal Pulls the Strings
The second half brought more of the same, though Dani Olmo was booked just 60 seconds after the restart — one of those early-in-the-half cards that suggests even Barcelona weren't entirely settled. It didn't matter much. Getafe's goalkeeper kept the score respectable for stretches, finishing with five saves against Barcelona's eight shots on target from 23 total attempts, but there was never any real threat going the other way. Four shots, one on target, one save required from Barcelona's keeper. That's the whole story of Getafe's night.
El chispudo de Lamine Yamal, picking the right moment to slip Jules Koundé in behind — the right back finished in the 73rd minute to make it 3-0 and put the final number on the board. Two more Getafe yellows followed, for Sebastián Boselli and Ramón Terrats, as frustration set in. Fermín López picked one up for Barcelona in stoppage time, which felt like the most inconsequential booking of the evening.
Verdict
Barcelona's form reads DWWWW coming in, and this result does nothing but reinforce the sense that they're finding a comfortable rhythm. Four straight wins now, a clean sheet, and a performance where the margin of control was arguably wider than the 3-0 scoreline suggests. Getafe will feel that the early goal made their night impossible — and they're not wrong — but the gap in quality was real regardless. The question now is whether Barcelona can carry this kind of efficiency into tougher fixtures. Against this opposition, it was never in doubt.
